From Shinkolobwe to the Atomic Bomb
A Conference on Ethics in Mineral Exploitation

Be a part of the future of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Join us in connecting, bridging, illuminating.

About Us
This conference in the Pullman Hotel in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, will address the implications and global consequences of uranium mining in the 1940s. The majority of uranium for the atomic bomb came from the Shinkolobwe Mine in the Belgian Congo, and Congolese natives--sometimes whole families--mined the dangerous metal. We will address the history of these events and ways in which minerals can be used for peace rather than for war.
